The challenge that the Pandemic presented was one that asked each individual in business to understand what they could do to stay in business! There was also suddenly a lot of time due to the cancellation of face to face training. But herein we found the others in our space and this presented an opportunity to work together to deliver more innovative and interesting trainings that would tackle the day to day happenings in the new order.
So the opportunity to partner, with diverse people from all walks of life had a significant impact on our goals and our vision and allowed us to grow organically in this direction. “Ancora imparo” – Still, I am learning” in Italian. Culture is the character and personality of your organization. It’s what makes your business unique and is the sum of its values, traditions, beliefs, interactions, behaviors, and attitudes.
Overcoming a challenging culture can seem an arduous task, but with the correct approach, you can achieve world-class results. As a leader, you must understand the critical link between employee behavior, environment and the resulting workplace culture. In March 2020 Mark took over as President & CEO for Spartanburg Steel Products in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Within the first 4 weeks they were in lockdown due to COVID-19. How did Mark and his entire workforce respond?
Mark will also share the ‘how’ to impact positive workplace culture, through proven methods, through sharing his personal journey! With over 25 years of leading people and teams, Mark has had the privilege to work with, and for, great leaders – and not-so-great leaders. Both experiences were extremely valuable to his personal development which started with his father, who was a leader for most of his career. At work, a highly respected, a man of integrity and character. But one of his biggest leadership lessons—what Mark ‘eventually named the burden of leadership’, he learned from interacting with his father at home. Mark’s father, who suffered from depression, was different in his personal life—the weight of his responsibilities affected his mood.
Don’t miss Mark’s ‘Golden Rule’, his insights and processes that he uses to give responsibility to who really owns the problem and how (as leaders) we can respond appropriately as we have a responsibility to our people. To be consistent, fair and predictable in terms of our behaviour. We are also human, and we have bad days, but we do have a responsibility to be fair and consistent.
Leading people is a privilege, and a burden. Your willingness to accept both is what makes you special as well.

As we, hopefully, exit from the health crisis of COVID19 we will enter a jobs crisis and companies will be reconfiguring their staff structures and individuals will have to reconsider their career options. There will be considerable disruption and turbulence but also opportunity. In all of this your network will be critical. But networking is not taught at school or college and companies don’t have strategies for it. Kingsley will share The Networking Institute’s precise 4 step process on how to build a strong and diverse network and the attitude changes, alterations in behaviour and new skills that will be needed to do this successfully.
Having lived and worked in 6 countries over 25 years Kingsley has came to appreciate the importance of networking but it was a learned experience and not something he was good at when younger. As his career progressed, the qualities needed to get a job in the first instance became less important and relationships became more important. Kingsley will share his insights and appreciation that networking is about ‘giving not getting’ and that opportunities don’t hang around on clouds – they are attached to people. Join this session as Kingsley illustrates the relationship between the greatest skill in networking and serendipity. Are there any advantages to COVID19? You will be not be disappointed with the take-aways – what will online connections bring in 2021 – more time, energy, money and less carbon footprint through virtual networking?
