The Māori have been influenced by Europeans, modernised with the technological age and also Christianised, many keep their culture alive. The traditional language is widely spoken throughout New Zealand and ceremonies are celebrated by the nation. Some core concepts of Māori culture are mana, tapu and utu.

If you were to pluck out the centre of the flax bush, where would the bellbird sing? If you were to ask me, "What is the most important thing in the world?" I would reply, "It is people, people, people."

CULTURE LENS: THE POWER OF NETWORKING IN A POST COVID WORLD

As we, hopefully, exit from the health crisis of COVID19 we will enter a jobs crisis and companies will be reconfiguring their staff structures and individuals will have to reconsider their career options. There will be considerable disruption and turbulence but also opportunity. In all of this your network will be critical. But networking is not taught at school or college and companies don’t have strategies for it. Kingsley will share The Networking Institute’s precise 4 step process on how to build a strong and diverse network and the attitude changes, alterations in behaviour and new skills that will be needed to do this successfully.

Having lived and worked in 6 countries over 25 years Kingsley has came to appreciate the importance of networking but it was a learned experience and not something he was good at when younger. As his career progressed, the qualities needed to get a job in the first instance became less important and relationships became more important. Kingsley will share his insights and appreciation that networking is about ‘giving not getting’ and that opportunities don’t hang around on clouds – they are attached to people. Join this session as Kingsley illustrates the relationship between the greatest skill in networking and serendipity. Are there any advantages to COVID19? You will be not be disappointed with the take-aways – what will online connections bring in 2021 – more time, energy, money and less carbon footprint through virtual networking?

John Murray will definitely provide ‘food for thought’ in this session and you will probably need oxygen aftewards to keep up with his enthusiam and passion for all things “What’s the craic?” (meaning “How are you?” or “What’s happening?”). John will share his underlying framework for getting the best out of people especially as the ‘photo shoot’ can be harrowing and full of trepidation. So what does this have to do with leadership? Focus on substance over superficial.

In his session John will share his insights and reflections of accumulating ‘friends’ , why this happens and how to amplify your skill set to “Do for the good of the village, everybody benefits” – it is something John openly admits trying to live by. Bringing culture and business together will give you some insights into John’s philosophy, his founding impetus and the evolution of his business from a for “glamour and profit” shooting models and actors to doing it for the good of the village which has put him on stages with Deepak Chopra and Marshall Goldsmith.

EDUCATION LENS: OUR FUTURE LEADERS

Caroline will be talking about how important it is for our young people (and us all) to develop emotional intelligence and self-awareness to take responsibility for our own happiness. There is a significant positive impact when we build our soft skills – not just on our employability and resilience but on being able to support our mental wellbeing, recognise opportunity and support our loved ones. When we then tie this in to diversity, inclusion and workplace wellbeing, we have people who can hear each other’s’ viewpoints, recognise greatness in our uniqueness and be an impactful player in any team.

Caroline will share stories, tools and ideas that you can implement personally and professionally to help both yourself and those around you. “Self-Awareness is my superpower and I couldn’t’ be a youth mental health first aider without it. I found my happiness and it’s had such a hugely positive impact on my daughters, family, friends, career and volunteering.

CULTURE LENS: ANCIENT WISDOM CENTERED LEADERSHIP: HOW A 2500-YEAR-OLD PHILOSOPHY TAUGHT AN ISLAND NATION TO BE RESILIENT

In this session Sahan will share how a 2,500-year-old philosophy enabled a small island nation to withstand 21 foreign invasions, 2 devastating tsunamis, a communist uprising and a 30-year-old civil war… and how this same philosophy might help modern leaders to thrive amidst a pandemic by cultivating compassion, empathetic joy and an equanimous mindset; a mindset that’s free from fear & regret.

As the founder of Resilience Within, Sahan brings insights & tools from ancient wisdom traditions and modern day neuroscience based emotional intelligence to leaders in corporate, government, healthcare and non-profit sectors. BUSINESS LENS: NEW DREAM FOR NEW GEN

“When I am not leading a group of 60 some coders, educators and creative minds at an EdTech social enterprise, I play with my six-year-old daughter. I dream with her for new futures for her generation.”

In our generation, zero sum games have prevailed. History lessons taught us to be individualists – leaders to dominate, power to corrupt, and wealth distribution to skew.

We all have to leave everything behind once we are six feet underneath. Covid taught us embracing humanity is the reward and success of all. No country is safe until all are safe.

In this session, Hla Hla brings together her wholistic education reform in a business model where vision and engineering become ‘visioneering learning’ along with social responsibility. It’s a time to question the culture of winners vs. losers, confronting, judging and fighting rather than resolving root cause.’ Let’s discuss Peter Diamandis’ 6 D’s of disruptive innovation and how we can re-vision the meaning of success, power, wealth in abundance.
